Looking to own a retired Standardbred?

Through my daily contact with trainers and owners, I often get to hear about horses that are free to a good home. Many people still rather give their slow horses away if they know they will be cared for. Most horses are young and sound, just not fast enough.

These horses will be free to a person that can provide them with a good loving home that will use them for some sort of pleasure riding or driving. You will have to give the previous owner visitation rights.

Keary Sibole of SPHO-ME (207) 993-3131 has asked SPHO-NJ members to kep a look out for a standardbred that disappeared from his adopter's home despite an agreement with the legal/registered owner that the horse be returned if it didn't work out as a pleasure horse for them. Please pass this information along:

The horse is a Bay Gelding who stands close to 17hh. He was foaled in April 1997 in Saco, ME. His registered name is "Moving By Passer" (barn name - Nicky); his lip tatoo is S3998 (the S looks like a J). Keary is helping the legal owner search for the horse and would appreciate anyone keeping their eyes open for him. Nicky was last seen at his adopter's home in early May in Weeks Mills, ME.
